Chinh Le
(Born in 1969, lives and works in Hanoi)
Lacquer-sculpture installation
Chinh Le was born in 1969 in Hanoi. She graduated from the Ho Chi Minh City Fine Arts College in 1987. Chinh Le uses traditional motifs and techniques in a new way. The language remains simple and she does not abuse the alluring beauty of gold and silver for a hackneyed vision. The artist seems to be traveling on parallel paths: one is a panorama and the other is a reduction, like abstraction. Lines, patches, dots… red, black, yellow and brown… everything goes in a rhythm which is harsh here and gentle there.”
Chinh Le has had numerous solo exhibitions, such as at Art Vietnam Gallery (2005), Hong Hac Art Gallery (2001) and Trang An Gallery (1999), Vietnam. She participated in group exhibitions at Sinebrychoff Art Museum, Helsinki (2005), Waino Aaltonen Museum of Art, Turku (2005), Hameenlinna Art Museum, Hameenlinna, Finland (2005), Fine Arts Museum, Ho Chi Minh City (2003) and Le Muse Gallery, Japan (1999).
